The Peony Coat
Sooki painted herself in her signature peony coat, which Ann Patchett remembers from the first time they met on Tom Hanks book tour. A matching peony motif frames the pages of Ann's article, ”These Precious Days” as published in Harper's Magazine. Sooki has been known as ”Birdie” to her grandchildren for over 10 years, so it is fitting for her self-portrait to feature a brightly-colored bird, the European bee-eater. The original is acrylic on canvas and signed ”Sooki.”
